Blachówka Quarry

Blachówka Quarry – the area of Blachówka documentation site is 6 hectares and it adjoins the Segiet nature reserve. As a result of many centuries of mining activity, the surface of Blachówka documentation site has been modified significantly, resulting in dumps, open-pit benches, underground headings, adits and shafts inhabited by 10 protected bat species, including serotine bat, Brandt's bat, Daubenton's bat, whiskered bat, Natterer's bat, Bechstein's bat, Geoffroy's bat, brown long-eared bat, grey long-eared bat and greater mouse-eared bat. It is estimated that the entire population is composed of several hundred bats which stay underground also in summer. Besides the bats, there were many interesting invertebrates (arachnids, insects,) plants (bryophytes, polystichums) and fungi found in the headings and at entrances to them. The area is protected within NATURA 2000 system.
