City location

Bytom is a city with poviat rights, inhabited by ca. 145 thousands residents, situated at the heart of the Upper Silesian Agglomeration of Cities. With its more than 760-year-old history, it is one of the oldest cities in Upper Silesia. It covers the area of 69.44 km² and adjoins Chorzów, Piekary Śląskie, Radzionków, Ruda Śląska, Świętochłowice, Tarnowskie Góry, Zabrze and Zbrosławice. One of the largest assets of the city is its location as Bytom has been situated at the junction of major traffic routes for centuries. Today, the city is crossed by the A1 motorway (with the motorway interchange at Strzelców Bytomskich Street), and national roads no. DK 11, DK 78, DK 79, DK 88 and DK 94. Thanks to it, Bytom has excellent traffic connections with the largest Polish cities, including Katowice, Poznań, Wrocław, Krakow, Warsaw and Opole. What is more, the ring road of Bytom (Al. Jana Nowaka Jeziorańskiego) ensures shorter passage through the city, being also a convenient connection with Zabrze, Gliwice and Piekary Śląskie. Bytom is crossed also by the Coal Trunk-Line connecting Silesia with Pomerania, and railway lines, thanks to which Bytom is connected with Krakow, Poznań, Wrocław, Bydgoszcz and Tri-City.
