Bytom in statistics

Bytom covers the area of 69.44 sq. km and adjoins Chorzów, Piekary Śląskie, Radzionków, Ruda Śląska, Świętochłowice, Tarnowskie Góry, Zabrze and Zbrosławice.
The city is situated in the Silesian Highlands at the average altitude of 280–290 m above sea level, though in Segiet nature reserve it reaches up to 346 m above sea level. This is where Srebrna Góra, entered in the Unesco World Heritage List together with the Lead, Silver and Zinc Ore Mine, including the underground water management system in Tarnowskie Góry, is situated.
As much as 24% of Bytom area is covered by vegetated areas, including e.g. historical parks, including Franciszek Kachl Municipal Park, Fazaniec in Szombierki and People’s Park in Miechowice, as well as forests, including Miechowice Forest Habitat, Segiet Nature Reserve, Żabie Doły and Suchogórski Rock Labyrinth.
The city has 41 kindergartens, 29 primary schools, 7 secondary schools of general education, 14 secondary vocational schools, 4 post-secondary schools and 2 universities.
It is famous for its good healthcare opportunities, having 3 large hospitals, 55 specialist outpatient clinics and 39 surgeries.
The broadly-taken culture in Bytom is developed with the involvement of 5 local-government institutions, including 3 municipal ones, e.g. Bytom Culture Centre, “Rozbark” Theatre, Municipal Public Library as well as 2 voivodeship ones, e.g. the Silesian Opera and Upper Silesian Museum.
Bytom is renowned also for its wonderful architecture. There are 82 historic monuments entered in the register, including e.g. the palace of the Tiele-Winckler family with a splendid park, Szombierki Heat Power Station, Mater Dolorosa cemetery, water tower, churches and residential buildings.
The city has excellent sports facilities, including 4 sports halls, a golf course, 9 indoor and 13 outdoor tennis courts, an artificial skating rink, 2 indoor and one outdoor swimming pool complexes, sports fields and complexes, 2 skateparks and 4 sports shooting ranges.
