Krystyna shaft
Krystyna shaft (private property) – a winding tower of Szombierki mine which does not exit today. The shape of this non-standard shaft is one of the most characteristic components of the panorama of Bytom.
A dominant in the landscape of the southern part of the city, this 57 m high winding tower of “Krystyna” shaft which used to belong to the non-existent hard coal mine “Szombierki” was erected in 1928. It was the first winding tower in Upper Silesia with electrical hoisting machines placed on the head. Its Modernist facade clad by red clinker resembles a huge hammer.
